Marriage Lookup
« on: Wednesday 20 March 24 22:09 GMT (UK) »
Hello

Just wondering if anyone could lookup the marriage of Henry Giles to Sarah Bayley which was supposed to have taken place at Claines, Worcestershire 7 May 1789? I have no other details apart from their names.

Many thanks

Jayson

I have to create an account to see the information for this site which I don’t want to do, and i’m guessing as it is familysearch it will be nothing more than names and dates which I have. I need to know whether the bride was a widow or not.

Thanks anyway

Ancestry have the image - Henry was a Bachelor and Sarah was a widow.  The marriage was by Licence.  Henry is shown as Henry Giles Esq - the only person listed as such on the page!

Ages must be from the Allegation, as no ages on parish record - and the marriage was said to be took place on 7 May 1789, not 5 May.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

That information is on the transcript  :).    Familysearch often has register images available to view as well

Comberton, Ladyhawk, BumbleB and Rosie, thank all so very much for the additional information, it is really appreciated, and confirmed what I thought.

Sarah’s first husband was James Bayley (d. 1785) who had as reported by the Chester Chronicle ‘destroyed himself’. After his death there was a dispute over his property in the Court of Assizes which eventually ruled in favour of his distant cousin. James had originally left everything to his widow and her family including the entailed land.
