Alfred farthing
« on: Friday 22 March 24 18:11 GMT (UK) »
Hi .
I'm looking into the death of alfred farthing born about 1868 Suffolk.
Its stated in the culford school records that he died 7 June 1878 age 10 and was drowned.  Their words .
On the 8th june the school room was required to hold the inquest in,the school was closed for the day .
It looks like he was buried 10th june as the school duties ended at 4.15 on account of Alfred's funeral.
Now the only death that I can find in the culford area for alfred aged 10 is in thingoe Suffolk. But its dated September q . But his funeral was 10 June.

"CULFORD -- An inquest was held yesterday at the Schoolhouse in this parish on the body of a boy named Alfred Farthing, aged 10 years. who was drowned on the previous evening.— lt appeared that deceased (who was said to be a very good boy) had assisted the dairy woman in her work as usual, and left the dairy for the  for the purpose of shutting op the fowls. He was then in good health and spirits, and said that when he had shut up the fowls he should go to the meeting. As he did not return home by 9 o'clock, his father became anxious, and went in search of him, and found his dead body in the washing pool near the stockyard. It is supposed he had gone there for the purpose of fetching up the ducks, and that while running along the brick edging he had slipped in, and, the occurrence being unobserved, he was drowned. The water was between four and five feet deep —The Jury returned a verdict of Accidentally Drowned"

As there was an inquest (see above) the death was probably registered later than normal.
