Help needed please with part of a letter

PS Have now found his obit in The Times (London) as I have access to that and it looks like the NY one requires payment and I'm too mean to pay :-)

Glad you think that your list of "things I might never know" has been reduced by one.

Can I add a new thing to your list? The letter you have you said was dated 8 July 1944, but Rennes wasn't liberated until 4 August 1944 - do you think that she just got the date wrong, or started the letter before liberation and finished after?

PS. There is various footage of Jean Marin giving a speech to the newly liberated town from the balcony in Rennes town square and he is named in the Army Pictorial Service description of footage they took.

I've always thought the faint bit above Juillet was bleed through from the other side of the paper but zooming in shows it may well say Aout.
If you are interested to see the letter, I've attached 2 pdfs, two pages of the letter per file as all 4 together exceed the file size limit.

It does look like Aout just above the Juillett.
