Local GRO Index Access for Birmingham
« on: Friday 22 March 24 20:17 GMT (UK) »
I have my first National GRO indexing Problem with my Great-Great-Grand parents

I know that James Murray married Minnie Hewson in 1893
I can see them in the indexes on Find My Past, but two weddings are linked to one page number
They are on Quarter 1, 1893
District: Aston
County: Warwickshire
Volume: 6D
Page Number: 375

Searching James returns:
James married one of these people Minnie Hewson or Flora Clara Gardner

Searching Minnie returns:
Minnie married one one of these people William Henry Fream or James Murray

So I'm thinking if I buy that certificate, (and I want to), I have a 50:50 chance that that page has the wrong wedding on.

So I think I need to now double check the 'Local' Gro's.  I'm just not sure where I do that.
My guess would be they might be accessible in Birmingham Library.  Can anyone confirm that?

Grateful for any pointers.  New to all this

If you track Flora Clara Gardner in 1901, you will find her as widow Fream, with two children.  The GRO shows the children's mother's maiden name as Gardner.

So it looks to be safe to order!  :)

GRO Marriage Registers have 2 marriages per page - so 4 names.
Older registers can have 3 marriages per page!

Do you not enter the names of the marriage you want as well as the ref no,? so you will get the correct certificate that way.

The registers held at the local District Registry use a different indexing system to the GRO.
Local registers are sent quarterly to the GRO.

Just enter James Murray and Minnie Hewson and the reference number and you will get the marriage you want.

Ignore the names of the other couple.

Just  enter Minnie Hewson and the reference you and will still get the correct certificate. You only need the name of the bride or groom.

Ah!  I see.  They are both on that page!
That makes sense now.
Sorry.
I'd looked up previous certificates using Ancestry.
It's just Find My Past presenting more information the way they present it!
Many thanks

If it is the correct marriage an image of the Register also appears on FindMyPast:
