surgeons name
« on: Friday 22 March 24 20:39 GMT (UK) »
I am wondering if anyone has access to the names of surgeons working in the Toxteth Park Workhouse Infirmary in Liverpool, Lancashire, in 1906, 1907.  My grandfather, Percival Gregg had cataract surgery done here.  I see on his admissions records the initials JH, who I believe would be the doctor in charge of the infirmary.  I also see BO, and I am wondering if this was the surgeon.  Percival was a young adult when he had the surgery.  In an earlier census record, he was listed as a boilermaker's laborer.  I wonder if he had some kind of work accident, injuring his eyes.

You can search by occupation in 1911 and 1901 censuses.
I’ve done it for “surgeon” location “Liverpool “

Not seeing anything helpful
There is a Richard O’Leary which I thought a possibility as Rs can look like Bs.
but 1. He is 73 in 1901 so I really hope it wasn’t him doing the surgery!
And 2. It says he is a surgeon on his own account.    But I expect surgeons “visited” the infirmary.

Have you looked at newspapers?

I have just started looking for this information.  I have scanned the Gore's directory for 1900, but not newspapers.  I will give it a go. Thanks

In 1900, senior medical officer was J Bradley Hughes - your JH?

List of surgeons in Liverpool in 1900:

closest to BO I can find:
Felix Brannigan O'Flaherty
John Brown Oliver

Of course if you can find a directory from around 1906/7 you might see some new names pop up.
