James Gearn and Mary Mulachy 1854
« on: Friday 22 March 24 23:36 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I have a James Gearn and Mary Mulachy arrived in Australia in 1858 .They were apparently married about 1854 in Ireland.
The immigration registration is very hard to read, James says he was from Aghaan ? Co Limerick and Mary says Boher ? Co Limerick.
Jame's parents were James and Mary Gearn both dead in 1858
Mary's parents   were Matthew and Mary Mulachy, she was still alive in 1858 .
Marriage information and information on their parents would be greatly appreciated.
I believe that they were Roman Catholic. The place names may not be correctly spelt

A possible baptism for Mary - 13th November 1827

The surname is Mulcahy not Mulachy as you have in your search heading. Mary’ssurname is difficult to read - Hartnedy?

There is a baptism for Margaret Mulcahy, 25th March 1840 with the same parents

I don’t see much as yet re James.
I would say you  will have to search variations of the surname, Guerin etc.

You have helped with the Mulcahy family thankyou.
I have difficulty reading the writing too, I think that the spelling for Gearn was different in the marriage record that Debra found. https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000632633#page/109/mode/1up
The name Boher seems to be correct but the place name for James Gearn, Aghaan may not be , and it could be in a different set of records. I am sure it starts Agh...

Yes a son Patrick aged 2 in 1868, birthplace given as Aghaan.
Another child Michael infant, died on the voyage to Australia , most likely born on Board ship.
