William Chandler son of Christopher and Patience died in 1909 Wellington NSW
His Baptism 1843 in Horsley, Gloucestershire.

In the 1861 census – this William is a blacksnith

William Chandler married 1874 Gulgong NSW to Mary Elizabeth Martin

Children for William and Mary Elizabeth -
Louisa was born 1874 Dubbo;
William was born 1876 Dubbo;
Amelia was  born 1879 Dubbo;
Ellen was born 1881 Dubbo;
Jenet was born 1888 Dubbo

William Chandler (blacksmith) and Mary Elizabeth Martin had a daughter Amelia who married in 1908 to Edward Deans.
Louisa marred James Johnston. Ellen married Joseph Clark. Jennet married Michael Regan.
The son, William, died in 1906.

Mudgee Guardian and North-Western Representative (NSW: 1890 - 1954),
Thursday 28 October 1909.
The death occurred at Cobbora, on Saturday morning last, of Mr. William Chandler, an old and respected resident of the district. Deceased was a native of England, and came to New South Wales at an early age, and for a considerable period at Windsor, where he carried on a blacksmithing business. Many years ago he came to Cobbora where he married Miss Martin of that place, and later on he took up a selection, and partly relinquished his blacksmithing business at the township. He is survived by his wife and a grown up family of sons and daughters with whom the greatest sympathy is felt by the residents of Cobbora.

(I wonder if Cobbora was mis-heard and confused with Kogerah?)

I'm puzzling over Eliza Earl...

There's a 1851 census for her with husband William Earl - they're living in Horsley, he's 30 (b.approx.1821), she's 26 (b.c.1825)

But later censuses look like the family is William and Elizabeth, their daughter Julia Martha. The problem is that on Julia's marriage, and also on some other docs, it gives William's full name as William Napoleon Earl, for who there's a baptism in 1831, parents Isaac and Eliz., and the kicker is he appears as a 20 year old with his parents on the 1851 census. This William Earl seems to have lived his whole live in King's Stanley.

So there are two William Earls in 1851.

The will for William Chandler in Windsor NSW 1873 clearly says his sister Eliza Earl of Nailsworth, and it seems probable that their mother was Mary Chandler of Horsley. So I'm inclined to think that the 1851 census with Wm and Eliza Earl in Horsley is more likely to be correct, since Horsley seems like an extension of Nailsworth, whilst Kings Stanley is more up near Stroud.

Have you looked at the census links i have posted for Eliza?
In 1871 she is living in Nailsworth. This is the closest date to the will where she is recorded as from Nailsworth.
There is no Julia Martha - this is the wrong family.

Yes, ok, I see now:

1851 William and Eliza Earl living in Newmarket, Horsley
1855 Wm Earl dies - address: Newmarket, Horsley
1861 Eliza Earl, 35, widow, cloth worker, living on her own in Forest Green, Nailsworth - born in Downend (v.close to Horsley)
1871 Eliza Earl, widow, cloth worker, born Horsley, living on Chestnut Hill, Horsley with son George (7, born Avening) - George must be illegitimate since William Earl died in 1855
1881 Eliza Earl, widow, cloth worker, born Horsley, living in Upper Forest Green, Nailsworth, with sone George William Earl (17)
1891 Eliza Earl, widow, retired cloth spinner, from Nailsworth, living in Upper Forest Green

I can't find a death for Eliza, or a GRO birth or baptism for her son George. There's a possible baptism for her husband, William Earl, at Forest Green Chapel in Nailsworth. This was the local congregational church and the other Chandler family I've been looking at (Enoch, son James Sansum Chandler, et al.) were connected to this Chapel. The chapel records are very patchy, but I'm wondering if this accounts for the lack of BMD records and maybe starts to bring together the family of William Chandler (of Windsor, NSW, d.1873) and his brothers John and Christopher, with the Enoch Chandler family - they all seem to have been in the same place at the same time

George’s birth may have been registered under a different surname, as he clearly was not the son of William Earle.

I did post a death for Eliza. 1897

Yes, you did, I haven't been paying attention. You were right it seems - I got the GRO death cert - Eliza Earle, died 18 Aug 1897 in Watledge, age 73, widow of William Earle, a labourer. Informant was nephew Henry Chandler.

This really helps, thanks
