Again so pleased for you. So that means you now know when and where William John Powell was born who his parents are, whom he married and where his son William James Powell as born. Please do tell us, I'm sure many other rootschatters would love to know.

Agree, would be nice to know.

"Clerk in Holy Orders" is specific to the Church of England.  A Methodist minister would not fit that description.

I've just replicated your friend's search and see that the 37 hits cover a period from 1571 to 1920, and none of them are William John.

Whilst I'm  always very very wary of trees on Ancestry this one was of interest. Could not resist downloading this death cert in 1953. For those with Anestry subs the link is

Do you think the informant is Edna Joan?

Edna J Powell is at the same address (16 Rowdown Crescent) in the 1963 and 1965 electoral registers.

The only refernce to the death of William James Powell, that I have seen is 1953 in Croydon, Surrey. This is clearly wrong, as his youngest child was born in 1956 in Croydon, Surrey (wife's maiden name was Holt).

He was born c1906, from his marriage certificate. His death would be between 1955 and 1972, when his wife, Edna J Powell, married a Mr Collins.

Gordon

Clearly incorrect

Death cert proves he died 1953

Unless that child is Edna's by another man.

Powell/ Holt births show 1949, 1950, 1951...and then the jump to 1956.

One of my own ancestors who died in 1884 was registered as the father of his second wife's child some three years later, in 1887.
