Another cause of death to decipher
« on: Wednesday 27 March 24 17:55 GMT (UK) »
I'm struggling to identify some of the wording on this death certificate from a GG aunt...

Died from having taken xxx poison taken out of a bottle whilst in a state of xxx xxx caused by chronic alcoholism and excessive drinking.

Certificate received from Dr Robinson.... not sure if the other entry is relevant.

Thank you in advance.

Opium poison

Unsound mind.

Dr Robinson
Rodd , coroner for
Devonshire. (Stoke Damerel District)
Inquest held 22nd December 1894.  (I am assuming the 9 since certs like this didn’t exist in 1804)

Thanks very much Shaun. What a shocking event to unearth! The sergeant mentioned in the article must be my G grandfather.

Good find ShaunJ !

The certificate was not given by a doctor but by Mr R(ichard) R(obinson) Rodd, solicitor and coroner for Devon, see 1891 Census Piece 1821/ Folio 31/ Page 1

In other words,  the Coroner registered the death after the inquest (as is usual when an inquest is deemed necessary).
