"It looks as though Frederick James and Charles Henry are siblings.

Well, that's quite a development. I did wonder about that. The target for the investigation was one of those very vague memories of a person who was "a bit of a character" but I had very little concrete information to go on. My primary source, as I said, was the son of Reuben Stephens who is also my brother-in-law. He could recall his Dad, Reuben, & other family members talking about "Aunty Hilda" who had done well in life & possibly owned hairdressing shops possibly in central London. He vaguely remembered his Dad, Reuben, going to "Aunty Hilda's" funeral/wake possibly in central London & being disturbed by the avaricious behaviour of other relatives, presumably she was well off & had nice possessions. The wake/funeral he thinks happened in the early 50s, possibly in central London when he would have been 7/8/9. But he really isn't sure about any of this. In the light of this it's very interesting to note that "Charles H & Dorothy A Stephens who lived in Hartlepool in 1901 with daughter, Sarah 3 yrs and two other children" had a child called Hilda. If this is the target "Aunty Hilda" (no guarantees) then she wasn't an aunty to my primary source but was a great-aunt I believe, ie. his Dad's aunty. I'll see if I can find out any more about her. It's tempting to leap at these things when they come up.
