Immigration - health and new job
« on: Thursday 28 March 24 09:27 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I'm trying to interpret Wilfred Greenwood's entry in the following passenger immigration form from 1921. Any help gratefully received. The bits I'm struggling with are,
for passenger 18 (I had to crop quite a lot so the image fitted rootschat's size limit):

1) his intended occupation (col. 23)
2) what's in column 24 (which seems to be used as a follow-on from col 23). There's 3 lines of writing, line 1 and 3 are related, written over line 2.

Any guesses appreciated!
Many thanks

LEE - Todmorden, etc.

Cynosis of hand. Probably should be cyanosis of hand.

Looks like “forearm” is also written between the other words.

Thank you both of you :-) that's really helpful

The 2nd line of text in col 24 seems to refer to people? I might be misreading but other lines seem to say "with husband" "To Employer," "To Brother", etc.
Ah, could it be "To Cousin"??

I also can't figure out what col 29 is about and what the entry is - any ideas please?

In later years he's mentioned as a well-known clarinettist, so I guess the cyanosis of his little finger wasn't too problematic.

It's difficult on the original, unfortunately. My guesses include: "Travelled inland on", "Travelled inbound on ", "Transmitted inxxxx on",  but not all the columns have been filled in as intended (like 24 which was "have you ever worked as farmer, farm labourer, gardener, stableman, carter, ??(poss Ry-, poss short for Railway?), surfaceman, navvy or miner?)

Many thanks

All that can be seen in that column is a series of initials.  Probably those of the persons checking the information.

If you can find another form like that which is clear then you will know for sure.  I don't think it is of any great importance in relation to the rest of the form.

Certainly looks like 'Travelled inland on'

Might the initials be the type of transport used ?
