I would expect the baby Flora to be on a passenger list back to the UK, even if unnamed, with a parent, but haven't had much success with this.  Also the mother going there.

I don't think there are any surviving UK passenger lists before the 1880s.

Pity. I wonder if any newspapers reported on comings and goings of the well to do Rylands and Waylands in social columns?

Thanks Sandra.

My to do list includes Scotlands People for a birth record. I think Jamaica might be a red herring. Also on the to do list is the Ryland connection with Thomas Fullerton Warren. Possible a son in law of Richard Ryland or a nephew.

Thanks Sandra - I was just about to post similar information.  I contacted someone on Ancestry who had Thomas Fullerton Warren in their family tree and he has just sent me that info.  I'll send him that appeal link that you posted.

Led me to look up Tontines in general and the Ipswich Tontine in particular,  but that is held in the Suffolk Archives, not the national archive, https://www.suffolkarchives.co.uk/collections/getrecord/GB173_HD1656.  Don't think that will help me find Flora though.

I am going to have to wade through the will (it's on Ancestry) to see who and what are mentioned. And try to connect Ryland and Warren.

It would seem that Edward Croft Ryland was up to his tricks though stating that Charlotte was due a legacy.  Neither of them mentioned in the links and I don't think in the will but I've only skimmed it so far.

Thanks - I have found a lot of Rylands but Flora remains an enigma.  My Ancestry contact says Da Costa was a Portuguese Jewish family which fled to Jamaica.

Thomas Fullerton Warren's will refers to Richard Ryland as an uncle, and he also lists an aunt, Mary Brown.  Then my eyes started watering :o.  I'll take another look later.
