Could you please tell us which records other than the 1841 census state he was born in Hampshire, it may help us with the search

Pity that Andrew and Isabella can't be found in the 1851 census. That census record would help confirm Andrew's birthplace.

When Andrew died in 1853 wife Isabella's address was 3, Lower Arundel Street, Landport, Portsea.

As I mentioned in an earlier post the 1841 place of birth is often unreliable, I certainly have a few in my tree that are far from accurate  :)

That census lists his wife and 3 others, presumably his daughters. The 2 eldest
Ann 20 - born 9th June 1810
Elizabeth 20 - bapt 20th April 1813

Those ages even after rounding do not agree with their birth / baptisms and Ann who was baptised in Liverpool is apparently bn in Hampshire

I think people probably just got confused with the question on the form.

This post seems relevant from dinnen’s other thread on Ireland board, considering Ashtone’s earlier post re address.

Not finding an Andrew, brass founder & Isabella Dinnan on 1851 census in Hampshire  ???

There is this entry BUT completely wrong first names  ??? Posting because of the address and not sure about the transcribed surname either so have added a snippet  ???

Arundel Street, Portsea, Portsea Island, Hampshire
Augustus Driver Head 1787 Super'd brass founder Liverpool, Lancashire
Abigail Wife 1789 Liverpool, Lancashire
Ann   Dau 1824   Portsea, Hampshire
Caroline Dau 1829 Portsea, Hampshire
1851c Piece number 1659 Folio 371 Page 11

Did he name 2 daughters Ann and the first one die  :-\

I think that 1851 census is him despite some discrepancies.  He signed his marriage with a 'x'.  By 1851 he probably could write but who knows. If he needed help with his form then a Hampshire southerner may well have had difficulty understanding his Liverpool accent  ;D.  Maybe he did try to fill it in but that is how the enumerator read his writing.  The enumerators writing of the surname is not exactly clear.

Copied from your other thread  :)
