About Ewart and Harold….

I realize your original query has been answered but I found these records about the boys that might be of interest to you if you don’t have them. Better you have them twice than not.

The boys are in a Middlemore Home in the 1911 England census and travel to Canada later the same year as Home Children. The first 2 records indicate the family was deserted by Charles which would explain his absence from shipping records and you now, of course, know who Edna’s father was. Ewart is down as Edward on some records.

The next 2 records are related to their placements. Harold was sent to Nashwaak Bridge, Ewart to the same area.

Harold can be found here in the 1911 census (line 5). I haven’t found Ewart. He doesn’t yet seem to be with the family he was going to (or possibly wasn’t recorded).

2 more records without much info posted.

All records courtesy of Library and Archives Canada. It is possible to order copies of the Middlemore Home records.

Alice and the girls left England in late 1912 and apparently ended up in Nashwaak Bridge, where Edna was born, so presumably Alice was reunited with her sons at that time.

EDIT: one record was inadvertantly duplicated…I have replaced it.

You are very welcome, sue14.

Ewart and Harold were very fortunate to have been reunited with their mother and sisters in Canada. That would have been a rare occurrence for a Home Child.

I don’t know if you noticed that there was another page related to Edna’s birth registration posted above by daisypetal? At the top of the record you can see that it says page 1 of 2. Click on the arrow to see the second page.
