Patrick Cleary and his entire family
« on: Saturday 06 April 24 14:19 BST (UK) »
Hi

Can anyone trace this person and his family before and after 1891?
Patrick Cleary - born County Mayo, Ireland c1860
Mary Cleary - born York, Yorkshire c1856
Children;
Michael born Thornley, Durham c 1877
Anthony born Willington, Durham c1881
Mary M born Willington, Durham c1884
Thomas born Willington, Durham c 1886
Ann born Willington, Durham c1888
Patrick born Willington, Durham c1890

The 1891 census finds the family living in 29 High Street, Willington where Patrick was a coke drawer.
With them was a 'nephew' Patrick Cleary, also from Mayo, ireland who was 19 years of age.
I believe that he was the son of John Cleary and his wife, Mary Kilroy who had married in Newport, Mayo on the 9th February 1866.
Patrick (1872) stayed in England, marrying Mary Ann O'Neil in Hull in 1902 - the 1939 register giving his date of birth as 30th April 1872, which matches his birth certificate, naming his parents as John and Mary.

John's father was Dominick Cleary born c1797 (died 1883 aged 86 years), and his mother was Ellen, (also died 1883, aged 88 years), so I can't believe that Patrick (1860), was Patrick's (1872) uncle.

Can anyone trace this family in 1881 or even 1901 and 1911?

Thanks

Sue

Aha...great, thank you, and his year of birth reduced too!

Can't find a marriage or a single birth registration of his children either  ??? ???

Nephew Patrick gives his birth as Foxford in 1891 - although you have a matching birthdate so that seems good.

I have his birth certificate which matches his date of birth in 1939 - but just purely guessing (hoping) that this is him in 1891 - County Mayo and age match.

Just need to find and identify his 'uncle' Patrick now!!

Patrick Cleary appears to have married as Patrick Carey in York in 1875 to Mary Laffey.

All of their children listed in 1891 where Carey/Laffey combinations.

Now I'm wondering whether they actually were Cleary's after all!!

His marriage will give you his father’s name so that might help.
