Makes you wonder if the surname was fictiious.  The occupation wouldn't fit if he were a silversmith
(think I read that earlier)  ?  Keeping an open mind Lisa.

I have found a 2nd-3rd cousin match for my mother on ancestry. (I have yet to take a test) the cousin match has a paternal grandmother with the name Mabel Annie Smith.

No good with DNA, never had reason to do that.  Does this refer to the next generation line or a previous generation line.  ??

I believe she is saying her mother has a 2nd to 3rd cousin match with someone.  But, it doesn’t mean that they were only cousins.  Be right back…

I’m experiencing a lot of internet problems tonight.  It takes forever to load sites and now I’m having trouble copying…

2-3 cousin also includes a match between her mother and someone else that could also be a 1st cousin, 1 time removed

and now my Ancestry screen is blank.  There are a few options for 2nd-3rd.

I’m going to close sites, turn off my iPad and will come back shortly.  Very frustrating.

2nd cousin could also be
“1st cousin 2x removed
Half 1st cousin 1x removed
Half great-granduncle
Half great-grandnephew”
  Source: Ancestry

There were three other examples of 2nd and 3rd cousin definitions but I don’t know if I am allowed to post their examples.

I’m not sure.

Be back in a few moments…we need to clean up a mess our cat made.

I haven’t found anything yet…

Searched for
Malcolm Smith/Smythe, born c1902 in Ontario
Mabel Annie Smith in Toronto
Smith, silversmith, Ontario, c1930
Malcom, silversmith, Ontario, c1930
Malcolm Maclellan Smith immigrating 1930s

I’ll try to think of other ways search.  Perhaps others may have suggestions.
