Faringdon , Berks and the Cambray surname
« on: Sunday 07 April 24 19:02 BST (UK) »
I've been looking into a second marriage of William Sheard to Mary Cambray on 14th September 1797 at Faringdon , Berks . This date was given to me previously and they lived their lives in Oxford where William had a grocers business .

The Berkshire FHS shows a possible bp . for Mary as 1774 All Saints . Also a pos . sister Sarah bp . 1772 All Saints and pos . a brother Thomas brd . 1771 All Saints .
There is also a mrg . shown ( no named bride found ) for Thomas Cambray which could be their father in 1769 at All Saints .

Jacksons Oxford Journal ( 25 Jan 1817 ) also gives the death / obituary of Sarah Cambr (ey)  73 y
of Faringdon , Berks shown as the mother of Mrs Sheard of the High Street , Oxford .
I'm believing this may be the mother of Mary Cambray ( bp . 1774 ) and therefore wife of Thomas Cambray ( of mrg shown in 1769 Faringdon ) .

Does anyone have access to the actual dates for the years I ' ve given and support any of my info . shown .

The bottom snippet, Oxford University & City Herald, 25 Apr 1812, links Mrs Sheard to a Wm Sheard.

Hi
Here's the baptisms (transcripts only I'm afraid)
Mary Cambray 18 Feb 1774 d of Thomas and Sarah
Sarah 24.4.1772 d of Thomas and Sarah (probably the burial 25.4.1773)
Can't find Thomas born c 1771. (probably died/buried 5.3.1771)

You have Thomas and Sarah's marriage.
Thomas buried Faringdon
1739-4.3.1816 residence Faringdon.
Sarah 1744-23 Jan 1817 residence Oxford.

There is a PCC Will for Thomas Cambray fundholder 1816 Great Faringdon
Exec Benjamin Kent of Abingdon banker and Thomas Flither? of Abingdon Gent
Sarah his wife gets everything for life.
Interest of Gov Bonds for benefit of daughter Mary Sheard widow
Then to her children Sarah Ann,William ,Luke and Mary Georgiana
His house to be sold after his wife's death and to go to Mary and then her children.
Eldest son of Mary ,Thomas Sheard £10
Mary to get all household plate linen etc after her mother's death.
Made 4 April 1812.

Sarah Clark d of Thomas and Sarah Clark bapt Faringdon 15 Aug 1744. So the date of her burial does fit.
Siblings  -Thomas 17 Dec 1740,Dorcas 7.1.1749 ,Mary James 22.4.1749
The couple married at Gt Faringdon
Thos Clark and Sarah Yatman 22.10.1739.By banns

Father Thomas bapt 12 Feb 1713 s of another Thomas and Sarah Clark

Hope that helps
