Cyril is transcribed as Crystal Cottingham.

It's worse than that. Cyril is transcribed as Cyrstal.

In the 1921 census return 5/6 members of the household have their age clearly entered in years and months. Cyril has 3 years 1/2 months.

with a census date 19th June
If 3 years 6 months > ~19th December 1917
if 3 years and one half month > ~ 5th June 1918

The Kent birth was registered Q2 1918 which fits the latter birthdate better, and the way the return is completed also suggests that it is one half month that is intended. I think he was born in early June.

Ancestry has 23 trees for the Cyril born 29/9/1918.  They all say he was born in Patrington, Yorkshire.

Annie Rye seems to have been in Lancashire for a fairly short time:

birth of George E Rye, mmn Cottingham registered 1920 Q2 Elham Kent
burial of George Edward Rye, January 15th 1921 Parr, St Helens, Lancashire
birth of Sidney G Rye, mmn Cottingham registered 1921 Q4 Elham Kent
birth of Sidney G Rye, mmn Cottingham registered 1921 Q3 Prescot, Lancashire

added: I messed this up, not sure how. The next child was born in Elham however.

Do you have George Rye in 1921? He is recorded in the Army, Armed Forces Overseas records, a corporal in the Buffs which matches the 1939 register.

Tim, I don’t agree he does not wish to be found. For the cost of a coffee £2.50 a copy of the 1918 gro image in Elham will give his dob, OR TOTALLY dispell him

Hi, softly softly,
Thanks for the info, i am in australia, but i did what you said registered to the gro and ordered the image.
Am i right in saying you only see a little of it?   it told me a date which i assume is his birth date.It did not show the whole certificate though?
