Could I just ask, are the places Ballyhaunis and Claremorris in the Castlebar localityas there are some events recorded here but I am unsure as to whether they are near enough to consider?

Both Claremorris and Ballyhaunis are separate Superintendent Registrar's Districts and are a distance from Castlebar.

See them on https://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/6892946#map=11/53.7840/-9.0163 and note their distance from Castlebar.

If you look at a map you can see that Ballyhaunis and Claremorris are closer to each other than they are to Castlebar.
In modern times, no problem, may be then slightly more difficult.

Sorry this next bit is so long winded.

I found a couple of records yesterday, by chance, and am having the greatest difficulty finding them today.
If you have Ancestry, there is a baptism for Thomas William Murphy, October 1913 in Castlebar. I think I may have found another child too. However, searching by name initially doesn’t work.
“All Ireland, Select Catholic Birth and Baptism Registers, 1763-1917 “
Then search for Castlebar gives
“ All Ireland, Select Catholic Birth and Baptism Registers, 1763-1917 results for Castlebar”
And you can see Murphy names.
You may not need these details but the priest has entered marriage details on some baptisms which can be useful.
Now - my point - if there are detailed notes, there might also be some on marriage records. These are not online but perhaps contacting the church might produce further details from the marriage record re Kathleen’s origins.

Another thing which I saw yesterday, was that there are Walsh names as witnesses/godparents and they seem to be from a Walsh/Murphy marriage.

If you want to post the Ballyhaunis/Claremorris names we could have a check too.

Thanks Heywood.

These are Ancestry hints relating to William Murphy b. 1872 Castlebar, brother of John and son of Thomas Murphy & Mary Kelly.

There's a hint for an 1872 birth in Claremorris, although I will disregard this as I already have the birth in Castlebar.

Then there is a death of a William Murphy in 1945 in Claremorris (a birth about 1872) - presume thats the chap above.

There's a petty session court register for William Murphy in 1898 who is resident in Ballyhaunis.

And finally a dog licence registration for a William Murphy of Ballyhaunis.

I am inclined to ignore all these hints, but I just wan't sure.

I can see a tree which has William Murphy, b Springfield,  son of Thomas and Mary Kelly.
The tree then has a marriage in Ballyhaunis, 1895 to Bridget Kelly.
I haven’t posted details but you can check.
This couple are in the census in 1901.
There are several other references in the tree but I would say the research isn’t reliable.

Added
You have brother William Murphy in 1901 and 1911 with his family.

Thanks Heywood & Kiltaglassan, you have both made me more inclined to trust my judgement and not include the Ballyhaunis/Claremorris William Murphy.

I may be back!
