"Was Thomas Bolitho a gold miner in Sandhurst Australia?".
« on: Wednesday 17 April 24 15:35 BST (UK) »
Hi all . I have a query about the Husband of my 1st Cousin 5 x rem(a long way off i know)

Thomas Bolitho b 1848 St Just Cornwall was the Husband of Catherine Bolitho . I have limited records for them both and was hoping someone may be able to help?.

The couple emigrated to Sandhurst in Victoria Australia about 1870 where they Married. Thomas's Father had recently died and they probably wanted a new start .

It struck me that Sandhurst was a gold mining Town! and I wish to know if Thomas was a gold miner there in long gully area??

Thank you and hopefully I may get some answers .

I think you can infer from this he ( or another Thomas Bolitho ) applied for a license in 1883

But you must be careful as a Thomas Bolitho was also set up in 1860 in the same area - so working out who is who might be difficult

There is an  In Memoriam announcement in the Bendigo Advertiser 9th April 1900 which might perhaps relate to tornado's couple:

Bolitho: in loving memory of our dear mother (Catherine Bolitho) who died 8th April 1898. Aged 46 years. Also our dear father Thomas R. Bolitho who died 21st March 1897. Aged 48 years.

Well , thank you to you all for the research into Thomas . The info is great and heartening to know that they all settled well in Bendigo and where well thought of .

Dave. I do not know if I can confirm if my Thomas applied for the license 1883..

Jen. You have the right deaths for the Bolithos .

So Thomas was more than a miner .. managed to be a Manager .

If anyone should discover any more I welcome this and best wishes .
