1939 register code help please
« on: Thursday 18 April 24 10:24 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help with codes on 1939 register please? Kathleen Williams DOB 31/03/1920 living Cwmbran. On the right hand side of her record it says LYXLA 1296743 and date 16/9/1942.
I presume the XLA part refers to the area code of Glamorgan, Cardiff? I can’t seem to find any further information on what this means on her record so would appreciate any insight.
Thanks!

Hi,
There is a page on FindMyPast for enumeration districts https://www.findmypast.co.uk/articles/1939-register-enumeration-districts

However looking at the entry and where the coding is placed I would think it is more likely to do with the NHS who notated this register over the years.

Thanks CD, would the NHS record a pregnancy because I believe she would have been pregnant around that time giving birth in 1943?

Most likely a change of address, or a change of name (or what she wanted to be known as).
Such changes were noted when the patient told GP or Hospital.
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Thanks, that is probably what has happened as she did not marry but had a child in 1943.
