Funnily enough, Edith spent many of her younger years in that very same children’s home in brighowgate.

Was Edith an orphan? I see a 1914 birth registration for an Edith Nundy in Grimsby. MMN also Nundy.
I'm not seeing Edith yet in the 1921 census.

UPDATE - I found her. Transcribed as Edith Mary MUNDY (inmate) in the Brighowgate Childrens Home Grimsby. Orphanhood: Father dead.

As Daisypetal mentioned, is this Edith in the 1939 Register?

Residing at 3 Albion Terrace Cartergate, Grimsby

Do you know her whereabouts after the Dec 1942 newspaper clipping?

There's a possible baptism record https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QL1K-L33N

and there may also be a brother https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:CJJM-7V3Z

Looks like the possible brother is an inmate at the Grimsby Union Workhouse (100 Scartho Road) in the 1921 census. Orphanhood: Mother living

There's an Annie MUNDY (born 1897) in the same workhouse. Birthplace is blank. (Surname on the record image looks like Nundy to my eyes).

There's an 1886 baptism in Grimsby for a Annie Mildred Elizabeth Nundy. Parents: Thomas and Mildred. She can be found in the 1911 census, living with a Robinson family.

Morning Ashtone.  That is definitely “our” Edith.  Her and her brother spent many years in & out the children’s home while their mother was in the workhouse. Very sad.

After the 1939 register, the only thing I can find is that in the 1946 poll register she was living at 214 Heneage Road (there’s nothing in between).

Oddly enough: in the 1945/46 register there’s no mention of her, and yet there was a Harry &Teresa Hibbert at that address (no mention of Edith).  And from 1946 onwards Edith went on to “common law” live with this Harry in Pershore Avenue.  We have absolutely no idea what happened to Teresa Hibbert thereafter.  No divorce/death, etc.

In December’46 Edith gave birth to her son, Stewart - at which address we have no idea, until we can get his BC. And presumably his father was Harry!

It is very complex!
