Photographs of Kathleen M Carrick b 1899 Gateshead

I have inherited a photo album from my late Mother which includes 6 photos from her youth in Newcastle on Tyne, of a friend called Kathleen Carrick.  They were taken between1917 to 1926 approx when she was a pupil at Rutherford Grammar School. We'd be happy to pass them on to any of her descendents.  I think  Kathleen married John Little in1933 and they had daughters Joyce and Doris.

Both Joyce and Doris married. Doris appears to have two children from her marriage.  There are a number of possible children for Joyce.

Their married names are McGuire for Joyce and Potter for Doris.

Perhaps you can try electoral rolls or Facebook for any of the children of Joyce and Doris.  Can't put names as they are probably still living.

I had traced the Joyce Little and Doris Little  marriages and found a Joyce Little marriage to McGuire, but there were several Doris Little marriages that seemed to be possible and my first choice proved to be incorrect.  The one you suggest spells Dorris with rr in the register index.  Is this definitely the correct one?  I have also seen the two children of Doris Potter. Thanks for your input.

When I was looking I put in the years 1950 to 1955 in the marriages on FreeBMD.  That was the only one that appeared and seems to be in the right registration district. 

Checking the 1939 Register shows the family living in North Westmoreland, so to my mind I would think that is the correct marriage.  Quite often errors in names creep in and are registered incorrectly.

I'll have a look and see if I can find a different marriage record for Doris.

I'm not finding any other source of information for this marriage.

If you order the marriage certificate, do so in the Potter surname with the first name of Roland.  Just give Doris's surname in the relevant box.

The fact that it is in Westmorland means that, to me, it would be the correct marriage.  The Little family are living there in 1939.

My first attempt had Doris married to Francis Konczynski in 1951 in East Ward, which became Westmoreland a few years later. But on following it up, it was a different Doris Little. I'm only working on freeBMD as I don't have a current Ancestry or FindmyPast sub.

On the 1939 Register her surname of Little is crossed out and the name Potter inserted.  As I said before the only marriage that came up as being the most likely was the 1953 one.

Find My Past does not add anything different for the marriage and also has her first name as Dorris instead of Doris.

(responding for my wife  )  Further searches have shown that this Kathleen Carrick was born in 1899 and died in Sunderland in 1990, unmarried.  So she would have been teaching at this school - not a pupil as suggested - and there are unlikely to be any direct descendants interested in her photo.  Of course any cousins who are interested may feel free to ask !

There is indeed a Teachers Registration Council document for a Kathleen Mary Carrick.  Registration date is 1st August 1926.  Address Rutherford College Girls School, Newcastle On Tyne.

In the Experience section is Assistant Science Mistress, date 1920.

If I have the right one she died in 1990 in Sunderland.

So as Andrew has suggested a teacher not a fellow pupil.

Death record gives a date of birth of 21 April 1899. She is on the 1939 living in Yorkshire, occupation is Teacher and single.
