Please help! Isaac Jones
« on: Tuesday 30 April 24 16:52 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I've hit a brick wall with research on my 2nd great-grandfather, Isaac (Moses?) Jones. Born 1861 in Llandrillo (Caernarvonshire) and died 1948 in Aled (Denbighshire).

His history is confusing.

The 1861 Welsh census names him and his twin sister as 'Moses and Martha Jones' (six days old when the census was recorded). However, every other census post-1861 lists their forenames as Isaac and Sarah Jones. I can't find any birth records to confirm the link between Moses - Isaac, Martha - Sarah. Perhaps they were middle names. I'm not sure.

I seem to be going around in circles. Sorry if this isn't clear, I'm new to family tree stuff! Any help is greatly appreciated.

Lou

I was going to suggest the same thing. I've definitely had names picked out for my children at 6 days post birth that I didn't end up using.

It’s quite possible that the Enumerator made a mistake in the name when transferring the information to his book from the household schedule. You don’t know who filled out the schedule, it could have been someone other than the father or mother..  I have come across instances where that has happened.  There is always the possibility or errors in transcriptions.

Although Isaac and Sarah were born towrds the end of March their Births were probably not registered until April and they would therefore appear in the 2nd quarter of 1861. i.e June 1861

Hello, Osprey.

Thank you so much for having a look at my problem. This is right; Owen Jones was my 3rd g.gf. He married Margaret Evans. He was Isaac's father.

Best wishes,

Lou
