Bloxam/Marsh family bible.
« on: Wednesday 01 May 24 00:15 BST (UK) »
Please help decipher hand writing found in the front of my Nan's family bible. I'm not sure of the connection to our family. There are names and dates in the back that are definitely connected to my Nan's side.(Vera May Marsh/Bloxam. The writing in the front pages are very hard to make out apart from a few words.

I tried to attach the photos to this post but file size was too large? I’m hoping the above link works.

This appears to be the Thompson family whose details are recorded in the bible....

It looks as though the inscriptions were started on the back inside cover until all the space was accounted for. Inscriptions were continued on the inside front cover, and not intended to name too many people.....space used generously.

When and where was the bible printed?  Does it suggest that it was printed for an organisation eg bible society....or just a general printing?

Do you have a burial place for any of the people named in the bible?

I will have to have another look for more info on printing etc. I’m not sure on the connection. I spoke to my Nan and she being 94 couldn’t really recall a link to the names in the front.  pages.

All the names in the back of the bible are of the Clare family and I have them linked to my Nan’s side as my Nan’s mother is Rebecca Emily Clare .

Do you know when/where/in what circumstances your Nan came by the bible?

If I am considering that the names at the back of the book, and known to your Nan, are written before the names at the front of the book......it would be interesting to know who had the book before it came into your Nan's possession.

Who had it before your Nan?

She can’t remember unfortunately, all she can remember is the Clare family in the back of the book, looking at the difference between the back and front writing and how faded the front writing is I’d say that the Clare family info was probably put in after the Thompson names in the front.

Good point, and I am happy to think aloud on this. If the names at the front were written first......they did not intend for many names to be recorded?.  It would be good to know who had it before your Nan.

I am not expecting that Nan has a year, but did she see it as a....child?....young adult?......30 years ago?
