Owen family - Ashton in Makerfield MISSING in 1901?!!?
« on: Thursday 02 May 24 16:57 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me locate my great-grandmother & her parents on the 1901 census?!

I have the family on the 1911 census at 46 Morden Avenue, Ashton In Makerfield, Lancashire

Thomas Owen b. abt. 1863 Caernarvonshire, Wales
Mary J Owen b. abt. 1875 Pengelli, Wales
David J Owen b. abt. 1897 Wigan, Lancashire
Celia Ruby Owen (incorrectly recorded as Cicely) b. 29 June 1900, Ashton In Makerfield
...plus other siblings born after 1901.

I believe I may have located David listed as (James) in 1901 with his grandparents (RG 13/3572) but cant seem to find my great gran & her parents!!

On her baptism record it lists their address as Park Lane, Ashton In Makerfield.  A little bit of googling has informed me there was no actual street address of this name in Ashton In Makerfield & Park Lane is actually the name of a colliery (which ties in with Thomas' occupation in 1911 as gas stoker.

I am also yet to find Thomas & Mary prior to their marriage in 1897 which also took place in Ashton In Makerfield.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I see that Thomas completed the 1911 form so it was him that put her name as Cicely R age 10  :)

Park Lane shows on this 1906 map, between the Park Lane Brick Works and Park Lane Farm and Park Lane Collieries (running north/south).

Hello
I can find the Williams family before 1897 but not the Owens in 1901.
The marriage was at Wigan Registry Office and you may need to buy the cert.
You have the 1901 census for the Williams and Mary Jane's mother is with  the Owens 1911

1891 census Westleigh Lancs
Mary Williams married 39 born Wrexham
Mary J 17 born Wrexham
David J 15 born Hanley Staffs
Frances E 13 born Hanley
William 8 born Huyton Quarry lancs

1881 Baker St Huyton
James 33 coal miner Wales
Mary 29
Mary j 7
Dabid j 5
Frances E Staffordshire.

The couples children Mary Jane Mar 1874 Wrexham,David James Dec 1875 Son T,Frances Elizabeth Dec 1877 Son t ,William June 1882 Prescot all give mmn as Richards.

Their marriage was at Eturia St Mathews 11.11.1871
James Williams 23 bach Sidney st James Williams collier
Mary Richards 20 Sidney st Ellis  Richards shop keeper

1871 census has them in Hanley
James Williams lodger 23  coliier Flintshire in Bath St Hanley
Mary Richards 21 lodger Wrexham in Oldham St Hanley.
I'll see what else I can find.

Do you know who the missing child was?  The one who had died before 1911 just in case it helps with locating them.
