It was paid to His Father James because his Mother Margaret Ann Darcy Boxwell died in 1915
His Elder Brother Sgt 306539 Charles Gilbert Boxwell of the Royal Tank Corps survived.

Without a service record it's difficult to know what happened.
He may have enlisted early but got found out & discharged.
At 17 he more than likely had been kept in but not sent overseas
until he was 18 1/2 which I believe at this was the qualifying date
having been reduced from 19.
His War Gratuity would have been calculated from the 1st. completed
month until the last including his home service.

With the Help of Genie Heywood on a Post today about Births in Bolton  -   - helped me find Jesse Darey was born on 29 June 1898 so he was Aged 18 at Enlistment in March 1917 and was aged 20 at Death on 20 October 1918
