Elizabeth (Eliza) Gibson died 1922 Canada

I was thinking the same about him leaving the family in the 1901 census Eliza is down as married although he is not there .By 1911 census she is listed as a widow I have seen a possible marriage for a Alex Gibson and death but need to confirm who his parents are

Thank you to everyone for their response.  A wealth of information to plough through. 
Need to confirm Eliza (Elizabeth) was my ancestor.
My Eliza was born Elizabeth Robertson born September 27th, 1855 Edinburgh, Scotland --- Parents William Robertson and Catherine nee Campbell.  Elizabeth had a sister, Catherine Robertson also born Edinburgh about 1857.   William and Catherine later divorced and Catherine Robertson nee Campbell re-married a Robert Wallace.
Would anyone know of her sister Catherine Robertson?

Alexander Gibson married Eliza Robertson in Old Deer, Scotland in 1877. Getting the marriage record from ScotlandsPeople should rule them in or out.

The 1881 Scottish Census in Old Deer has the son George noted as a niece-in-law() with the surname Rankin so was Eliza married before?  Eliza and George both have birthplaces noted as Tyrie, Aberdeenshire. I can only see a transcription.  The original will be on ScotlandsPeople.

Checked SP found  2 marriages Old Deer and Smailholm.  Will try the Alexander Gibson one first.

Have you ruled out the 4 marriages on SP between 1885-1888 or do you know for certain she married in Canada?
