Yesterday I spent a very pleasant afternoon in the Somerset village of Rode, near Frome. It was the occasion of a musical Garden Party in the grounds of the local Methodist Chapel and the small Brass group to which I belong, Bath Vintage Brass ,(the name will give you a clue!) had been booked to play for the last hour. This was the first time I had met up with the Band members since last September, when Jane's condition had started to deteriorate. What a lovely welcome they all gave me- I was not playing, but enjoying their "musical" contribution to the proceedings, including, much to my joy, an arrangement which I had recenty done for them of Ride the Chariot, an old negro spiritual.
This will be another step along the road to some form of normalisation and I think I will soon be ready to start playing again with them.

There's nothing wrong with being mediocre...as long as you're good at it!

It did you good Jeff, as you said another step forward doing something you enjoy , when I was a child I would walk through London alongside a band with my father, even now if I hear a regimental band I have to check my emotions after all these years.

That's heartwarming news Jeff.  There's a lot of "first steps" after a blow and you've just taken one of them, and from the welcome given to you I imagine your friends are only too willing to help with the next one.

Best wishes,
Rena

IT’S GROUNDHOG DAY.

Again

I have been laid up for a few weeks after an Operation, nothing serious.  I just am on crutches for a while.  Also I cannot presently drive nor get in a car easily so I am practically housebound.

So the routine of one day is exactly the same as next.

A biggie in the plus department is that it has enabled me to spend a lit of time on Genealogy without feeling guilty on not doing the dozens of jobs around the house and garden that I would normally be doing.

Finally the real bonus is that I have found a close relative who did respond to my contact attempt and they have agreed to take a DNA test, the result of which will breakdown a brickwall that I have been plagued with for years.

Well it is never wasted time doing what you enjoy rather than what you feel you ought to be doing when you are incapacitated !
It sounds as if you need to take things easy anyway.

We get hidebound by routine sometimes and miss out in so much in life if we are not careful.
A routine can be rather freeing, what needs to be done is done,
but it can also be restricting if we are not careful, balance is the keyword.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery ,and rest and pleasant occupations play a big part.
Listen to your Granny!
Viktoria.
