Moneyglass RC Graveyard - headstone search
« on: Thursday 23 May 24 12:09 BST (UK) »
Hi there - I have death certificates for my Great great grandparents, William Brady and Susan Boyle, who married at Duneane RC Chapel in 1855.
I’ve looked in Cargin Chapel graveyard on a visit some years back, but can’t find a headstone or plot for them. I’m wondering if they may have been buried at Moneyglass Cemetery instead?

William Brady - died 1892 Ballylurgan, Duneane
Susan Brady (Boyle) - died 1877 Ranaghan, Duneane

There’s also a possibility that Susan Brady (nee Boyle) may be buried in a Boyle grave, along with her daughter Elizabeth Keyland (nee Brady), if this helps…

Does anybody living locally have the time to do a quick search at Moneyglass for me please? I do know of a large Brady plot just near the gate, but there are no forenames on it as far as I know. Is there a register of plots anywhere for Moneyglass that may list the people interred in that plot?

Thank you so much for any help.

Most Catholic churches didn't keep burial records but you would need to contact them to see what records they might hold.

Thanks for the suggestions - I’ve contacted the priest and he can’t help - I wondered if there was another graveyard register held locally anywhere.
I have looked a few times on Findagrave but it only holds about 48 memorials for Moneyglass - which is nowhere near the full amount. So I’m hoping somebody local can do a foot slog and photograph anything of interest.
Thanks again.

If the church doesn't have any burial details then there is no other source.

Somebody suggested that copies may be held in the local library - I’ll try contacting them.

Not sure which 'local' library was suggested. There isn't one in Toomebridge (mobile van from Ballymena comes a few times a month as far as I know). Perhaps they meant Ballymena Library? They do have lots of materials but not sure they would have what you are looking for.
Coleraine Library, not exactly local, does have a large collection of microfilmed copies of church records from PRONI (a project that what was the Coleraine Branch of the North of Ireland Family History Society started to bring local church records to the area). You can check PRONI's list in their Guide to Church Records- https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/sites/default/files/publications/Guide-to-Church-Records-October-2019.pdf

I’ve emailed Randalstown and Ballymena libraries… let’s see what they know.

Meanwhile… if anybody local can do a wander around Moneyglass cemetery… 😉

Ballymena Library has a good collection (branch libraries here have very little material) and this guide might help you see what they do have-
https://www.librariesni.org.uk/resources/cultural-heritage/cultural-heritage-collections/ballymena-central-library/

Under Church records
 Births, Marriages and Deaths for parishes in County Antrim and
County Londonderry on microfilm in Coleraine library (transcribed
by Coleraine branch of North of Ireland Family History Society).
 Index to burials in Ballymena Council area in Local Studies
 Ballymena
 Gravestone Inscriptions.

Note: the microfilms in Coleraine Library (which I mentioned earlier) are copies of microfilms that are in PRONI, Belfast and not transcribed records.
