What was a financial 'draft'?
« on: Friday 24 May 24 17:13 BST (UK) »
In a letter from my aunt to her husband, a soldier with REME, in 1945, she confirmed that a "£4 draft' he had sent had arrived. Can anyone explain what this would have been please? I don't think it was a Postal Order because Postal Orders are frequently mentioned in other letters.

A Banker's Draft?
Like a cheque, but drawn on the bank's account.

See:https://www.barclays.co.uk/help/payments/one-off-/bankers-draft/

I did wonder if it was a Bankers' Draft, but this was 1945 in Germany so probably a particular arrangement with the (British) Army with whom he was serving? I'm trying to avoid making assumptions based on 21st Century civilian practices as I'm writing a non-fiction book so need to be accurate. Thank you though KGarrard
