Adam Armstrong of Castleton
« on: Sunday 26 May 24 13:00 BST (UK) »
This is a long shot! Does anyone descend from, or have info on, the following person:

Adam Armstrong chr 27 Nov 1709 in Castleton.

He was the son of Adam Armstrong & Margaret Heslop (Hislop/Heislop). Adam senior was probably born in Bruntsheals, Castleton, Rox.

Adam junior may have emigrated to America in the 1730s, but I'd like to see any evidence to prove, or disprove that theory.

Cheers,
Bob

I note that birth/baptism records at Castleton do not start until 1749 on SP, marriages 1759 and only a few deaths in the 1760s. There are Kirk Session minutes from 1660, it looks like a Robert Armstrong was Minister in the early 1700s?

However there is this on find a grave.

Adam Armstrong 1706 - 1736 Old Castleton Cemetery,
Newcastleton, Scottish Borders.

Thanks Colin,
That Adam was the son of Francis Armstrong and Bessie Glendenning.
The 'Memorials of Castleton Parish' has some useful information, as does 'Liddesdale Monumental Inscriptions' 1666-1995 - Castleton. I'm hoping someone will recognise Adam b1709.
Cheers,
Bob
