The James who married Hannah Marsden in Ormskirk was b 1882  - father was also James - not Jonathan

The 1881 reference I gave in my reply 2 is the correct family. Father Jonathan is a coal miner

Henry Watkinson widower married Elizabeth Day spinster 29 December 1877 Holy Trinity reg. Bury

His father William an Engineer
Her father James a Moulder

Seems they only had 2 children James 1878 reg. Wigan and William 1880 reg. Wigan

Yes I know.

The OP wanted to know about the James 1878 with mother's maiden name Day. So I posted the information to show it is not the one he is looking for.

Thank you.
I have seen most of the above information but something doesn't feel right to me.

The Watkinson/Day line was the marriage of John Watkinson to Mary Ann Day in 1865 in Leigh which is closer to home.

If anyone has time, could you please check the 1939 for James Watkinson who is living at 1 Deansgate, Hindley, Wigan with his wife Martha along with his son (also James) and wife Dora and 2 children?  And from then on.......

In 1921 they are living at 79 Neville Street, Hindley.

In 1911 their address is 6 Queen's Road, Hindley

They married in 1904 in Hindley

Pass on 1901

Possible?
1891  James is living at Lanes End (which is Atherton Rd) Hindley. with his mother Mary Ann (who has remarried and is now Kelshaw) and 2 brothers.

1881 living at 47 Atherton Road with his widowed mother and siblings.

Is this feasible?   Thanks.  Royd.

Your opening post says James Watkinson is married to Martha & that is correct.

If you are certain you have the correct 1939 entry you will see that there is a married son living with him.  If you check that son's birth on GRO online - mmn was Hunt

If you are certain that these people are your ancestors - is there another Watkinson marriage to a Martha Hunt?

If not - then the marriage showing fathers name as Jonathan is correct

Yes, thanks, this is definitely the correct family. I did say that the two families were living together.  James Jr. was born in 1908.  He is sorted.

It is not the Hunt connection I am looking for - that marriage is correct.  It is going back from that where I hesitate.

What did you think of the Watkinson/Day theory? I use all the available resources constantly but I was hoping for fresh eyes on this theory.  R.

In the 1871 census I have found John Watkinson with family. His age is given as 26 and he is a cotton worker. They are in Leigh reg dist.
In 1873 there is a death for  a 29 year old John Watkinson in same district. Now if he has died ...in 1873... He cannot be  the one we are looking for as he could not be the father of James born 1878!
Address in 1871 Back of High St. Atherton.
