Thomas Hunt born 1851 West Indies

I am not sure it’s the same Thomas Hunt marrying Mary Jane Jackson because if it is he is having children with Ellen only two years later and I haven’t found a death for a Mary Jane Hunt between 1891 and 1893.

That is why he didn't marry Ellen.

..... the 1891 census Jane also shows as being born in Lancashire.

Her birthplace is Lincoln.

Yes I have him on the 1921 census. He and Ellen are together in Barnsley.

I see them now. Although Thomas is crossed out on the census page, and the name Ernest is clearly written above it.

Please can you confirm - Is Thomas' middle name Edward or Ernest? In your duplicate thread you say his middle name is "possibly" Edward. 

It makes a difference, particularly if he was using Ernest on pre-1891 census records, etc

His middle name is Edward. He did have a son Edward Ernest, but on his death record he is Thomas Edward.
