Sometimes women were admitted to these asylums when suffering from post natal depression  :-\

Interesting thank you! Yeah my belief is if she was there then it was for something along those lines. Her letter does not give any indication that she was a “lunatic”.

Is her name White on the letter? Who did she marry?

She signs her name “Jeannie White” on the letter which I believe was written between 1917 and 1921. The border crossing where she’s listed with a different surname was from 1929. I don’t know who she married or when aside from that different surname listed.

When you say "border crossing" do you mean USA/Canada?

I’m not sure tbh. I haven’t done too deep of a dive into their family as a whole yet.

Yes returning to Canada from Scotland (my ancestors immigrated to Canada early 1900’s). Next of kin in country from whence they came is the Jean in question who’s listed as living in Glasgow in 1929

Hi scottishlad

I don't know if you've seen this link to a blog about Prestwich Asylum https://manchesterarchiveplus.wordpress.com/2015/02/02/the-prestwich-asylum/#comments

It was an impressive place.  And, no, not a workhouse.
