It looks like parish records were lost.

Perhaps. RootsIreland is an incomplete collection of the surviving registers. It is the the best resource available for remote online research but eg for Shankill Church of Ireland, Lurgan, Co. Armagh they have none, but they all survive from 1681, still leld locally in the church and filmed on ancient almost illegible microfilm in PRONI, Belfast. Not convenient for me as don't live there, and there is no name index, but thats Irish research for you.

My Irish family branches - Robb, Douglass, Fraser all came to Australia by 1865. I think I will be very lucky if there are records to find.  My hope is that there are family records somewhere....
Anyways, my mantra is "never, ever give up!"

Yes the RCB list when text search the pdf for 'Arvagh' is in grey and click on the blue hyperlink
"3 volumes of Arvagh parish registers, comprising baptisms 1827-77, marriages 1827-45 & burials 1827-77, were destroyed in the fire in the Public Record Office of Ireland in 1922"

Unless you have specifics for them like Arvagh then pre-civil registration (births & deaths 1864, protestant marriages 1845) then I would tend to agree. Much before then and you often need to be researching in person in PRONI, Belfast on microfilm or RCB Dublin for C of I or viewing original Estate records.

DeniseO in the meantime I suggest you ask that the Moderator moves the posts about your Douglas family to the Co Cavan board and then the Co Cavan experts can look at their leisure. You might be tempted to read some of the other posts there and find some that will be useful

PS While I note that some records may have been destroyed I think I read somewhere that modern techniques are bringing some back to life. I think I read that some burnt docs have had the freeze then extracting moisture till dry techniques done on them.

Just find a little sentence that says report to Moderator on the page.....sometimes at the bottom of each post. Click on that and a box opens up and you can ask the moderator to move the relevant posts to Co Cavan.  :)
