I know he died Jan 21 1980 in Montreal. I’m wondering how I can access records from there? I can’t find anything else on Ancestry. I’d love to see the original document or any other information about his later life. Thank you!

Ahh I see ok thank you. I haven’t tried newspapers. I found through ancestry a transcription of a death record, but would like to see the original image. I did find a website genealogiequebec.com that says they offer viewable copies for a subscription fee, but I don’t even know if they have the image I’m looking for. Thanks for the response though it was helpful!

I see from his tombstone info above he was a private with the R.C.A.S.C. - Canadian Army Service Corps
You should be able to obtain his military files for a fee - which often has some information regarding his location & perhaps occupation post-war.

Might be worth it...for example, my father's was extensive (R.A.F.) but my father in Law's (army) was maddeningly brief although he'd served more years overseas. You pay for the amount of paperwork, even if blank. Perhaps now you can request only completed files?

   It's actually a lot broader than that..."Canadian citizens, permanent residents and any individual present in Canada can make a request under the Access to Information Act. If you are none of the above, you can ask a representative, who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, to make a request for you, if you give that person written consent...."
added:  Although you may have to be immediate family to submit a military request, can't remember...But all will be revealed should he wish to make a request.

I’ve looked into it before I was under impression it was oldest living relative and had to be Canadian citizen. Unfortunately don’t have anybody still in Canada so think I’m out of luck until the time restriction expires.
