If ever there is a reason to have a proper Backup of your Ancestry family trees that is fully under your control, this should get you heading for the software purchase.

I’m talking a fully sync’d tree between software and Ancestry so that includes all media, images, documents etc and NOT just a Gedcom file.

I’m glad by chance that yesterday I sync’d my Family Trees to my software.

I have a PAF, also am on a great site called Familypedia which is a wiki where I have added my family tree, and you can add biographical details. I think you can on Ancestry but I have never used such facilities yet.

Yes for me also, Ancestry has been playing up all day.

My primary tree is on my PC - identical versions on Family historian and Family tree maker. I also have boxes of certificates and printouts on that stuff called paper. I create a gedcom from FTM to put on ancestry, solely so I have a tree linked to my DNA  data. No way would I ever entrust over 40 years of research to any on-line service
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

A wise action.

Spare a thought for one of my DNA contacts, previously I had given her some tech help and she sent me a message asking for help as she had been having Laptop troubles and her Son in Law wiped it and reinstalled Windows.

All her research gone and no backups.

As well as trees duplicated on two software programmes on pc, they are also saved on an external drive. Have just got an even bigger external drive, maybe I will do another back up to the new one.
