Looking at FreeREG as well John didnt marry Julia until 1887 but they are living as married on the 1881 census. The marriage list his father Charles as still being alive although Julia's father is listed as deceased

The 'second' Charles Welch is definitely not mine.

Charles Welch (junior), who I am following, had a mother with the maiden name of 'Myatt', as did the other surviving children of Charles and Mary, John and Emily.

Charles (junior) was born just after the 1861 census had been taken and married in 1880, therefore he only appears on one census with his parents, the 1871 census, and these parents were Charles and Mary.

Just a co-incidence with the name and occupation of the 'other' Charles! But thanks for looking and taking an interest!

Did you manage to trace Emily? I cant see a marriage for her also had absolutely no joy in finding Charles and Mary in the 1881 census either
