There was a Mary Banes born 1853 in Wigan district, daughter of William Baines and Ann Duckworth. Although on the 1871 census, Mary gave her birth place as Sunderland. Baptised in Hindley, Lancashire, on 17th June 1853, born on 4th may.

All of the other children were registered in Lancashire, except for Elizabeth in Easington, Durham.

William was a miner in Wigan in 1871, born in Haydock.

Married as William Baynes/Bagnes to Ann Duckworth in on 10th May 1852. Image on Ancestry.

all the information you have there is correct, but the Sunderland bit is confusing. in the 1861 census it gives her place of birth as Hindley. not sure now.thanks brian

Most trees have her birth place as Hindley, Haydock or St Helens. The baptism has her abode as Hindley, which seems most likely.

Some have her death:-

9TH JULY 1910 • the infirmary. Wigan work House

HUGHES, MARY 57
GRO Reference: 1910 S Quarter in WIGAN Volume 08C Page 10

Husband, John, a widower in Hindley in 1911.
