You are welcome Heather.  I didn't see him in a burial entry so perhaps his ashes may have been scattered or buried elsewhere.
Perhaps ashes were scattered in the Garden of Remembrance at Whitley Bay Cemetery?  Bereavement services should be able to tell you more.

You are right, I got a reply from Bereavement  Services to say his ashes are scattered at the Garden of Remembrance at Whitley Bay Cemetery, so I will visit next week. Thanks once again, Heather
