Looking for Robert Howard

Robert Howard married Mary Potter in 1800 at St Benedict Biscop Wombourne. Their children were also born in Wombourne.

Several Ancestry trees have linked him with a Robert Howard born to Isaac and christened 1st February 1772 at Walton upon Trent, Derbyshire. Robert's eldest son born in 1801 was called Isaac.

Robert Howard is not an uncommon name but I have not found an alternative birth for Robert in the Wombourne area. Is the Derbyshire link feasible or are there other reasons why this birth might be missing from the records?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes, I believe so. His wife Mary was still alive in 1851.

The Robert born 1772 may have died in 1816 in Derbyshire year of birth given as 1770

Robert is listed as a Forge carpenter on one of the children's baptisms and a boatman on another.

Interestingly there is also a marriage of a Robert Howard bachelor to Mary Hervey widow 7.11.1796 at St Peters, Wolverhampton which is just down the road but I cant see a burial for that Mary the 1800 marriage doesnt state if he is a widower or bachelor

Thank you for the information. Hopefully we can discount the Derbyshire link. It is possible that Robert married 2x - his son married 3x! He put his father's occupation as wheelwright.

Still wondering why we can't find an appropriate birth record.

There is also a baptism of a George Howard 12.11.1797 at St Peters to a Robert and Dolly Howard. Dolly maybe a nickname of Mary

There doesn't appear to be other births to this couple and I haven't traced George Howard further, so he may have died. There are two other Howards producing children in Wolverhampton at this time so they may be related.
However, on the downside, Robert's marriage banns in Wombourne do not say he was a widower.
