Identify Badge
« on: Saturday 28 September 24 10:52 BST (UK) »
Good morning....family lore has it that my late uncle served from the 50s possibly up to the 70s in the Parachute Regiment. Contact wasn't kept up but a recently discovered album shows my uncle 'at work.'
Can anyone identify the badge on his uniform and possibly the wording of the motto (outlined in red)?
Many thanks.

Are you referring to the British Army?
Assuming yes this looks wrong for Army patches.
Trade/formation patches were worn on the upper arm with
Regimental patches/badges above the breast pocket & cap.
The Parachute Regt. was a winged parachute.
Willing to be corrected.

It does not look to be British Army to me.

Apologies for confusion caused....yes he served in the British Army.
He was still serving in 1972 as when my grandfather died, my own father tried to contact him and the M.O.D. passed on the information, they didn't reveal any details about there he was serving.
He had returned to Ireland in 1962 for my grandmother's funeral and I recall my own father (his brother) recounting he was obsessive about his weight which had to be kept at a certain level.

I thought maybe a military or civilian display team but I'm not
seeing anything remotely like this.

If you can provide his full name, any rank and date of birth that might help folks to search further. The badge might be a civilian one that he was wearing that day. His name and rank will open up plenty of potential research if he was in the Army.

Thanks for all your advice to date.
With regard to SiGr's suggestion - details are scant.
Patrick William Turner was born in Wexford Ireland in 1933. My father, William Patrick, was two years older....obviously their parents liked the names - William and Patrick!!!!!
We have no idea unfortunately as regards his rank...sorry.

Checkout page 13 of the first edition of "Sport Parachutist" to see Staff Sergeant P W Turner RE national champion 1963. A Sgt P W Turner is also named as a committee member for the British Parachute Association in the same publication.

He's possibly jumping for Sapper Sky Divers in 1965 which may well be the wording you circled in red.
