Maurice born to a Timothy Coughlan and Mary Coffey
Birth - 1882 and death 1884
2nd Maurice b 1884 https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1884/02681/1987923.pdf

Is this is now the wrong family? I am a bit confused.

Need to find a military record for the 1853 Timothy. I have failed so far.
I think they must be two different men.

I think they must be two different men.

They must be, as the 1842 Timothy died in 1900 and the other was still alive in 1901. It seems like the 1842 Timothy must have been the father of the Mary that was baptised in India in 1874. It doesn't help clarify things that Mary claimed on the census to be born around 1877. The two census records for Mary are certain, as the 1911 one actually has my great grandmother on there. And my granddad always used to say she was from India.

It doesn't help clarify things that Mary claimed on the census to be born around 1877.

may be adding to the confusion, but there was GRO Regimental Birth Index entry vol 1121 page 81,  for a Mary Coffy whose birth was registered in Peshawar, India in 1877, Regt recorded as 81st Foot.
