Diary summary week ending 6th October 2024
« on: Monday 30 September 24 07:58 BST (UK) »
Ģood morning folks, here we are starting a new week and now October.

Pouring with rain again and a very dismal day, for those who have contributed to the washing subject there won't be any done here today.

Yesterday  was our patronal  festival at church, instead of the usual lunch it was decided to have a picnic in church, worked out quite well,  our newly appointed and recently ordained Rev took charge, she is young and enthusiastic, everyone enjoyed it, as per usual I got the job of helping with tea and coffee  then the washing  up, worked well with the secretary's  husband, good team work.

My daughter and family are surfing in Cornwall , daft lot this weather.

Hope everyone is starting  the week feeling chipper.

Hope those who have been unwell are feeling brighter and recovering,  won't name names  up you know who you are.

Good morning. We have a quiet sunny morning here in Devon.
The sea is much calmer than it has been for the last week. Hopefully my friend who is returning from a holiday in Portugal, will have a pleasant channel crossing.
Unbelievably I attended Morris practice yesterday evening. One of the group most kindly came out of her way to drive me there. Of course I wasn't able to do very much, but I did manage a left hand star without dropping my stick, I could not have done that a couple of weeks ago.
Possibly a better indicator of my return to full health, than cleaning the toilet!! 5 months ago, when my left side was entirely unresponsive I truly thought I would never return to Morris. I do feel mildly optimistic, quite likely I won't be fully dance fit before summer 2026, but I can work towards that goal, and I shall continue with balance exercises. :D
Hope others with big struggles can also feel a slight tremor of optimism.

Can't believe we're in October! It's the monsoon season here, it seems, doesn't seem to have eased up on raining for days. Somewhere out there is a (water) garden. Hope those not feeling well are recovering and strengthening.

Hello, please may I join in? My attention was caught by the mention of Morris practice. I don't any more but I played for a side in Cumbria for twenty-five years.
Does this thread have any specific rules, or is it simply a "what I am doing this week" theme?

Welcome Genjen
All are welcome to join  the diary, it started at the start of lockdown mainly with people's daily news and light hearted friendly banter , I can tell you it kept a lot of people going throughout the pandemic.
Mowsehouse  was a Morris dance till quite recently  she has suffered a Stoke but she will do her level best to get back in full swing as soon as is able, I am sure she doesn't mind me saying that
Feel free to join

Thank you, I remember well the various strategies we had for maintaining sanity during lockdown. One of my regular ones was a group on FB which posted quirky photographs every day. It is still going too!
My week so far has been spent in recovering from a friend's fiftieth birthday celebrations ( I know, so very young!). Last night was my partner's Morris AGM, which, as a non-active member of the group, I did not have to attend, thank heavens. Instead, I sang the evening away, practising with the two friends who makeup our close harmony trio. I think we spend more time laughing than singing! ;D ;D

I hope Viktoria manages to get some good help at the eye clinic today and will be back with us soon.

It sounds like you are progressing well, Mowsehowse.  I'm glad you have been able to get back to your Morris dancing group.  This will no doubt be a good incentive to build up fitness so you can return to this fully in time.
Welcome to the thread genjen!  It is true that much unexpected positivity was found during lockdown following a scary start.
World news looks quite dismal today.  I think it is so sad and tragic that there is all this fighting and destruction going on.  It certainly does make you appreciate the peace we live in in this country.

I  am beginning  to think the world has gone mad, yes we live in comparatively  peaceful country  compared to some.

Yes, do hope we hear from Viktoria  soon, bless her

Dismal indeed and very worrying. This is not the place for political discussion but I do think that peace, both at home and further afield, is very fragile at the moment.

Thank you for your welcome. My own survival technique during lockdown involved visiting an awful lot of folk clubs on zoom. I recently met some people who had previously been known to me as little screen sized creatures with no legs.  ;D >:(
