It’s been a difficult one to track, I find the Birmingham side of my family quite difficult,

I first started with my maternal Great Great Grandparents Joseph Best & Mary Ann Thompson, I found out via their Marriage certificate the two witnesses were infact Mary Ann Thompson’s Brother William Henry and His Wife, (she was named after Rosannah’s Mother) and than found Mary Ann on the 1881 census along with Rosannah & John, and that’s as far as I have gone,

Hopefully someone with the expertise might be able to find out for sure

Eliza also says her father is Thomas Rhodes, gun barrel welder, when she marries in 1856. witnesses are Joseph and Ann Rhodes

1861 also confusing

Mary Ann Rhodes  52    Head  unmarried. Paper marbler
Eliza Jane Rhodes 23     Granddaughter
Henry J Rhodes    17    Grandson
Mary Rhodes          92    Lodger

There's a possible baptism for henry Joseph - illegitimate son of Ann, a paper colourer

James Rhodes b. 1766 (1841=75), Mary Rhodes b. 1765 (1851=86) born Rowley, Staffs. (Rowley Regis?)

FindMyPast transcripts
Marriage (2 records)
James Rhodes, 3 Sep 1787, residence Stafford & Mary Poston
James Rhodes, 3 Sep 1787, marr. place Dudley & Mary Peaton

Baptisms - parents James and Mary
Elizabeth Rhodes, 7 Jul 1793, Rowley Regis - (2nd record = Rhoades)
William Rhodes, 14 Jan 1798, Rowley Regis
James Rhodes, 3 Aug 1800, Rowley Regis
Ann Rhodes, 25 Dec 1807, Aston juxta Birm
James Rhodes, 20 May 1810, Aston juxta Birm
Charles Rhodes, 15 Apr 1811, Birm
Thomas Rhodes, born 11 Mar, bap 22 May 1812, Birm

The '41 and '51 Census have a Charles and Thomas just a year apart in age - but ages don't quite fit. Some of the '41 ages don't reflect rounding down.

Possibility?

Someone remind me of where we are! As I’m slightly confused!

So we know that Rosannah was born in 1830 In Birm,

she’s listed her father as
Thomas Rhodes a “Brassfounder” on her marriage certificate,

We found Mary Ann b.est 1809 listed as her mother on the 1881 Census and in 1861 we’ve found an unmarried Mary Ann b.est 1809 with two children and a Lodger named “Mary Rhodes” Aged 92

Obviously another user stated that Rosannah may have been born Illigitimately

I think the Eliza & John Swann marriage might be a different family? Although it states Joseph & Ann Rhodes as witnesses, the father’s occupation is completely different to the occupation on Rosannah’s Cert,

Can we also note on rosannah’s death reg, (28/11/1900) she died at 111 Queens Cross in Dudley, and she died of Apoplexy Paralysis, her death was certified by “Thomas Rhodes” Possible family member link?

If we also look at her children’s names (rosannah) she’s named one of her daughters “Mary Ann” and her Son John “Thomas”

Good Morning
Henry J Rhodes the brother of Rose is buried at Brandwood Cemetery 28.6.1900 with his wife Laura Kate who died 1918 age 74/5 years

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/229343615/henry-joseph-rhodes

He married at Edgbaston 25.9.1864 to Laura Kate Cowley d of John Cowley tailor.
He gave his own father as William Rhodes  gas fitter.

Eliza Jane married at the same church 7.2.1864 John Smith wire worker s of William Smith carpet worker. She gave her father as William Rhodes brassfounder.

So several fathers Thomas, William ,brassfounders or gas fitter.

If we go back to the 1841 census there is a James Rhodes 75 ? welder and Charles 25 and Thomas 24.
So if we agree Mary is unmarried that makes James with 3 of his children. The ages are rounded down so looking for baptisms

James and Mary Rhodes as Rose's grandparents

Rosanna and John baptised St Martins Birmingham 11.4.1803
Joseph 7.4.1806
a gap where Mary should be.
Charles  born 20.9.1810 bapt 15.4.1811
Thomas 11.3.1812 born 22nd May

It looks like James Rhodes was buried St Martins 6.12.1846 of Birchall St age 69.
His wife the elder Mary dies June 1863 age 93 Birmingham.( She says she was born Rowley Regis)
Mary Ann ,the mother of rose ,Henry and Eliza death Sep 1881 age 70 Birmingham.
Uncle Charles 10.8.1851 at St Barts age 36 .

Sorry but struggling to find marriages for the older generations.
