I am looking at the Biddle family and found something on Ancestry which is quite confusing. It`s from a "story " . This is a copy.
Mark was a reasonably well-off "squire" and the story goes that he had an affair with Elizabeth Prewett, who was 25 years younger than him and her father challenged him to a duel. Anyway (and the rest of this is fact), after her father Thomas Pruett died in 1784, he then had an affair with her mother Elizabeth Prewett nee Yeo (who already had a number of children by her husband Thomas Prewett) and they had an out-of-wedlock son named Luke born 19/7/1787.
They then married on 20/1/1788 and had a further 4 sons, Mark 1789, Frederic(k) 1791, Ernest 1793 and Moses 1796. He then must have carried on his affair with his wife's daughter Elizabeth because they then had a son called Hugh (Pruett/Prewett, later Biddle) born in 12/1797. His wife died on 25/3/1800 and apparently he then married the daughter, Elizabeth Pruett in 1802, probably in Bristol.
My findings are these
Mark Biddle was baptised on 3 October 1756 in Tytherington, Gloucestershire
He married Elizabeth Pruett on 20 January 1788 at Thornbury . Elizabeth signed her name and Mark made a x. Elizabeth (Yeo) had been married to Thomas Pruett who had died in 1784.
Elizabeth Biddle died 25 March 1800 and on 13 January 1801 Mark married again to Elizabeth Pruett, at Bristol, St Peter. Presumably the daughter mentioned above.
Mark Biddle died in 1823 and made a will where he names children from both his marriages.
Also Hugh Biddle my natural or reputed child of my present wife Elizabeth born before our marriage.
I can`t find a death / burial for the second Elizabeth Biddle so don`t know her age.
If she is the one stated to be 25 years younger than Mark then she would have been born about 1781, and I have found this.
Elizabeth Pruett Birth Date 14 Feb 1781 Thornbury.
This is the confusing part, if the father died in 1784 and Elizabeth was born in 1781

??
and the story goes that he had an affair with Elizabeth Prewett, who was 25 years younger than him and her father challenged him to a duel. Anyway (and the rest of this is fact), after her father Thomas Pruett died in 1784,
Another issue is that Thomas Pruett made a will dated 4 November 1784.
He names children Thomas, John, William, Daniel, Elizabeth.
This is on Ancestry but as 1806. There is another document here which refers to Elizabeth wife of Mark Biddle and one of the daughters of Thomas Pruett. Why is this 22 years later, can anyone help.
Mark Biddle makes a will dated 1810 , he names Elizabeth his wife.
he is buried 12 Sep 1823 Oldbury on Severn, Gloucestershire aged 68.
I can`t believe the story about the duel can be true and am still not finding Elizabeth.
