My experience with the register is that the dates recorded do not always mean that was the date of marriage, but when the NHS became aware of the name change. I could be wrong.

This has been my experience too.

Tony.

Thanks.  The 1954 Lizzie G is indeed the best fit.  That is also how she is recorded on the 1921 census.

Thank you all.  Lizzie G Owen was one of 3 sisters.  I was told by my grandfather that one was seriously religious (Edith Owen 1905) and another married late.  The eldest sister was Harriet Ann Owen (born Jan 1889 in Cwmbach Aberdare) who was a school teacher.

I have been looking without success for evidence of their marraiges but as it turns out the 'married late' may well have been Lizzie remarrying.

Thank you all.

This may well help with regard to Edith in 1939 if still alive.

Edith is mentioned in the Aberdare Leader newspaper in 1942 as a member of her church congregation and making addresses as part of her work with the sisterhood.  She wrote to the same newspaper about theological matters in 1939 which gives her address as Sion Terrace in Aberdare.

She's at that address until 1939 on electoral registers. Have found her on the 1939 register - bit of a challenge as she's listed just as Edith and with only the house number on Ancestry.

that points to another late marriage

I can see David and Edith together in Cynon Terrace, Llwydcoed up to 1967 on electoral registers.

David dies in 1978, with an address in Norton, Mumbles. I've been having difficulty with a death for Edith

This one caught my eye as the dob matches 1939

Edith Owen Allanson
Birth Date    4 Apr 1905
Registration Date    Feb 1991
Swansea Vol 27 p2131

Marriages Q4 1981
YORK   Vol 2 p1967
ALLANSON    GEORGE H    DREW
DREW    EDITH O    ALLANSON    YORK    2   1967

Probate register confirms its our Edith - her address is the same as for David Charles Drew's death
