Hi
It does seem that we have reached another impasse. Like you, I can only see the one baptism to Thomas and Susan Grapes, and no marriage for them.
It's not unusual to have problems finding marriages that far back, but this is the second one with the Grapes.
Perhaps Thomas is the Thomas "Grapses" of Ludham on the administration bond for John, which is where we started with this!

If Susannah was from Potter Heigham or Ludham there are only a few candidates, I am not sure if any can be accounted for. We would then cast around for wills (if any) of the parents. Not looking very promising at the moment.
And of course she might have originated from further afield.
John

Hi John,
Thanks for this. Yes, things of that age must have been lost or destroyed over the centuries. Quite amazing really that we have what we have. Looking at those ancient wills and bonds is fascinating.

I double checked all my info again this afternoon, and spread my search nationwide, but still no obvious candidate. One possibility, and only a possibility: the Administration Bond of Thomas Grapes 1696-99 that was mentioned before seems to be witnessed by a Clement(?) and Mary ATWOOD. Wondered if there might be a family connection, and there is a Susannah Atwood bapt. 12 April 1635 in LUDHAM to Charles and Margaret. Tempting...but no way of proving any relationship to Susannah, and the signatures under hers are William Grapes and John Ellis.
