Thanks both very helpful! - this leads me to another question about the birth/baptism of Francis Connelly's (Connolly) father - James Connelly.

His father has a very common name and it seems he was age 56 at death (1912) and born in Ireland. Any ideas how I could find birth/baptism records for James Connelly?

You need to get the names of James’ parents from his marriage certificate,
Milligan - Jardine – Glencross – Dinwoodie - Brown: (Dumfriesshire & Kirkcudbrightshire)
Clark – Faulds – Cuthbertson – Bryson – Wilson: (Ayrshire & Renfrewshire)
Neale – Cater – Kinder - Harrison: (Warwickshire & Queensland)
Roberts - Spry: (Cornwall, Middlesex & Queensland)
Munster: (Schleswig-Holstein & Queensland) and Plate: (Braunschweig, Neubruck & Queensland & New York)

It’s worth checking the 1911 Scottish census.  In that particular year people often named their place of birth (as opposed to just putting “Ireland”) so that might be a clue for you.

James Connolly appears to have been born around 1855 which is before the start of birth certificates in Ireland (1864). So you would need to search RC parish records for his baptism, once you have narrowed down his likely place of birth and parents names.

I don’t see James Connolly’s baptism but I do see 3 other children born to Felix Connolly and Mary Collins.

Ann Jane Connolly 1.11.1855
Mary 25.9.1859
Felix 17.11.1861.

All born in the parish of Loughgall, Co Armagh.

There are trees on Ancestry which list this family. One records the family living in Derrykerrib, Co Armagh, but I can’t find any such place.

Here’s the birth of Patrick Connolly to the couple in 1865.  The family were living in Derryneskan, which is in the parish of Drumcree, Co Armagh.

Felix is noted as dying in Scotland, though no details are given.

Trees on Ancestry are not always accurate (to put it mildly). Don’t take any information on them on trust. For example, one tree shows a daughter Mary Collins (born c 1859) as remaining unmarried and dying in Richhill Co Armagh on 12.1.1928 but I cannot find a death in Armagh that matches that.

Many of the family appear to have moved to Massachusetts.

Amazing find, Thank you!

I'm trying to figure out the handwriting - in particular the occupations of both the fathers, Felix Connolly and William Kane. I can see they are both labourers of some sort, anyone able to decipher their occupations?
